Shabu Shabu (Kurobuta Pork Collar) -- Shabu No Koya

Shabu-Shabu Time folks! Shabu-Shabu being one of the most iconic Japanese cuisine, has come knocking at the doors of many countries worldwide, even more so in Singapore, where Japanese food is widely accepted in our home country.

So together with my pal RZ today, we came to this Japanese hideout located in Liang Court Basement Level. The tables are wide and nicely spaced out. Ambience was pretty good with the accompanying Japanese music in the background, which gave us a comfortable feeling while seated inside.

Guide To Shabu-Shabu-ing ~

Steps:
1. After the broth has boiled, pace yourself by putting in the vegetables given (carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, enoki mushrooms etc)

2. Hook up a slice of the thinly sliced pork/beef and make a swirling motion with the broth barely covering the piece (12-15 seconds)

3. Dip into the fresh egg followed by their in-house special ponzu sauce

4. Send them into your saliva-filled mouth

5. Enjoy!

Their in-house special ponzu sauce was a mix of sour-y and slightly salty, with a hinge of sweetness embedded. With such combination, it must have been a great pair up with the meat. Indeed it did not fail me, hit the sweet spot for me but careful not to over dip!

Our Pork Bone Stock Base (+ $3)
Kaminabe Paper absorbs impurities from the meat, from the attentive waiter who served us.

Weirdly, the broth didn't turn out to be as flavourful and aromatic like it should have been when I went to Tampopo (Japanese Restaurant). For $3 and constant refill with no charges, what more can I be ask for? Right?

Thinly sliced Kurobuta Pork -- Main lead of the Day ~~
Look at how evenly and nicely distributed the mappings are, not considering the higher end and more expensive variants! Kurobuta Pork comes from the Black Berkshire, one of the world's highest quality breed of pork. Matching this in terms of closest rivalry would be.. *Roll drums...* still Berkshire pork himself! Definitely mouth tantalising, oh-how-I-wish they are all in my mouth savouring away! Okay its time to stop myself from describing, photos on!

Photobucket
*Worrhhh!* Careful of that piece! All leftovers inside the pot are being cleared out by us two just so that we can fully succumbed to the taste of the pork

Sorry that I loved you.. Sorry that I needed you.. Sorry that I ate you now

Photobucket
Yeah, that's my friend there! " It's my turn now! Roarr! "

Really nice place to be at and I would recommend my friends to come along, for a gathering, a simple meal, or a talk-cock eat-long-long session! Though the price could add up to be a tad on the expensive side, but if you are thinking right now and this is gonna be your first time, why not?

Friends @ Jelita -- Holland Village

Saturday evening with the night falling upon, I have decided to make my way down to our friendly neighbourhood since I am at Clementi, which is pretty nearby Holland Village (Note the difference: This is along Holland Village Road)

Friends@Jelita is visibly seen from the main road and its just one level above Cold Storage.

Tempura Soft Shell Crab Salad
Tempura Soft Shell Crab
First up, Tempura Soft Shell Crab was presented to us. Well.. this gave me the first impression that it should be pretty palatable. Indeed it turned out decent, just that it might be a little too oily for the health conscious to begin with.
Deep Fried stuff who wouldn't like, right?

Smoked Salmon salad
Japanese Konbu Smoked Salmon Carpaccio
Konbu is often known as "seaweed" and you can find them in stock base, giving a very nice texture when you bite into it. Over here, I can't seem to find any of them (busy searching through the wild salad). Disappointed feeling aside, the salmon was thinly sliced and it made up a good complement to the salad, though I would have wished there are more salmon slices. Greedy me :)

Chef’s Soup of the Day
Soup of the Day
Soup of the Day? This is one tough nut to crack, I mean.. I squeezed my brain juice and still couldn't figure out what kind of soup this was supposed to be! Cream of mushroom? But no mushroom bits. Cream of broccoli? Nope. Cream of Chicken? Likely.. But why is the soup so watery and lack of taste?

Tuna Steak
Pan Seared Tuna Steak
The meat was tough and require some strength to separate into mouth-sized pieces. Being advised by the waitress who had served us beforehand that she recommends having the tuna medium raw, I went ahead accepting her suggestions happily. It turned out otherwise, but I am still on the happier side that I have had my virgin try on the tuna steak instead of only those tuna sashimi where you can find in almost any japanese restaurants

Grilled Pork Steak
Grilled Pork Steak
Notice the thickness of the steak? Yes, a surprisingly common dish (except that steak is usually referred/associated to beef) but left the deepest impression for me before stepping out of the place. Well grilled and the meat was tender and flavourful. You can see the juices sipping out from the meat as you knifed it, sounds great ya? Ohhh by the way, I love the carrot cuts they have there, very sweet and crunchy. Best item presented to me, beats the rest of the dishes here flat

Friends @ Jelita
Just a comment, they do consider the time of serving the next upcoming dish, and they don't rush you into finishing and clearing plates like they are going off-duty anytime soon. Points added!

Tandoori Chicken Pizza $17
Well to be honest, I couldn't really make out what they serve until I reviewed my photos. The chicken chunks are fairly done, with slight charred at the edges of the crust (It's unhealthy mind you!).
Ambience:
A nice place for chilling out and have a cold beer. And there are stage bands doing live performances, so do watch out for them!

Roasted Duck Pizza $19

Roasted Duck Pizza $19
One of the top favourite pizza all-year round. Known as one of the Signature Dish associated with Timbre.
Thin crust pizza filled with generous amount of crispy popiah skin on top of thinly sliced roasted duck breast with a slight sweet savoury sauce base. The meat was tender and I sort of like the sauce. A well blend overall.
